Warming up is an essential part of sports training and kickboxing is no different.
At the beginning of every lesson, a 10-15 minute warm up is performed prior to commencing the main lesson. The first part of the warm-up is aerobic-based - increasing blood flow to the muscles. This is followed by some stretching exercises which helps avoid injury from over-stretching.
Listed below are some techniques practised in a typical beginners class. These are practised on 'focus pads':
- Punching
- Kicking
- Knee & elbow strikes
- Blocking
In addition to the above, Intermediate/senior classes involve some more complex techniques as well, such as:
- Trapping
- Strike interception and destruction
- Grappling/groundwork
- Restraints/holds/locks
- Sparring
- Throwing
